Micronesia :: Yap : Valley of the Rays

This is the east coast of Yap's answer to M'il Channel in the west. The resident population of mantas migrate here during the summer months of May-November and similar to its western counterpart, the overall area is split up into a number of different sites, all of which can be explored in one day.

The rays approach their cleaning stations via Goofnow Channel that has a sandy bottom at 17-25m. The coral outcrops here act as cleaning stations, the lergest of which - the Merry-Go-Round - is the biggest station on Yap.

To the north of the channel is The Car Wash which is a large lettuce coral formation and very closeby is Manta Rock, a coral formation that rises some 12m from the seabed and is a good spot to shelter from the currents and watch the rays as they arrive in the mornings.

Depth: 17 - 25m

Viz: 10 - 20m

Currents: Moderate to strong

Getting there : Boat 15 mins

Best months: May - Nov
