Palau is making a splash in 2010. The string of over 586 islands in the western corner of Micronesia is using its most abundant feature, water, to shape activities for the coming year. Here is a roundup of what visitors can expect.

The week includes nightly lectures, presentations and documentaries. There will also be the opportunity for hands-on experiences. Participants can dive sites like Blue Corner, Peleliu Corner and Shark City. Hotel and dive packages are available, which include accommodations, diving days, seminars, participation in studies and research, lunches, transportation and a Gala dinner.

The week of learning is limited to an intimate five divers, in order to provide the best level of instruction. It is offered for beginner and intermediate students.

History-buffs may want to travel to Palau between June 4 and 11 for the tenth annual Wrexpedition. This event, one of many hosted by Fish 'n Fins, explores ships and seaplanes that were sunk by the Japanese during World War II. It includes five days of diving, three tanks a day, seminars and tech-diving. Packages are available which include, accommodations, days of diving, lunches, transportation, seminars, movie nights and more.

From September 22 through the 28 join shark behaviorist Dr. Erich Ritter as he tries to undo sharks' bad reputations and show you the softer side of Jaws. During his SharkSchool, the program will bring divers, snorkelers and swimmers closer to sharks, teaching the principles of shark body language and the most likely intentions of a shark. SharkSchool Palau will take place at Sam's Tours Palau. The program includes lectures, two dives per day, accommodations and meals.

And finally, for the second time, Palau hosts the Kid's Sea Camp, in collaboration with Sport Diver magazine and PADI Diving Society. From November 19 through 27 families can experience seven nights accommodation, daily meals, round trip airport transfers, transportation for all excursions, Rock Island Tour/Jellyfish Lake, full day guided kayak tour, and more.
