I will be going with a mate of mine to Ranong and then into Burma for a week of diving on the Burma Banks. I was wondering if anyone had recently done a similar trip and could offer tips, hints, caveats, etc...

Also, being relatively new to liveaboards, I was wondering what to take? Seeing as it is just diving and laying around the boat, I can see that I would need to take much more than my dive kit and a change or two of clothes...?

Seasoned professionals of the liveaboard circuits have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Having worked on one for a while in Australia I'd recommend not taking a lot. Some definates are:

A couple of changes of clothes (don't need footwear)
Sunscreen
Reading material for the evenings/playing cards etc
All your dive kit obviously
Camera

You should let the operators know if you have any special medical or dietry requirements before hand. They should have at least basic medical provisions such as paracetamol and seasick tablets but it may be worth taking your own.

yeah sun block few clothes ...but a good torch they dont provide hi quality torch and its esential for a good night dive ...also dont forget sum antibiotic like amoxicilin in case of a cold congeston or agina that could fuck your airways and your trip so also a good antiinflamatory like ponstan in case of ear infection wich are comon ...also actifed just before a dive can ease equalisation but cant really heal it thats why antibiotics .i worked in a liveboeard as a dive master for 10 years around andaman every trip u had a guy with ears problem so the ponstan amoxicilin plus actifed combination was effective in saving many cruises for sik guests ..peace im out

We would welcome contributions for our maps as we know some of them are a little wayward.

Your dive shop or website would of course be credited for anything you could send us.
